Let us be honest up front: this mailbox is still being set up, and letters sent to hello@annonus.com now cannot reach us yet. Keep what you want to say saved; once it opens we will announce it in the weekly letter, and you can send it then.
01Four entrances
Submissions If you have a piece about clothes, exhibitions, photography or everyday dressing that you would like to publish on ANNONUS, send us the outline or the full text to look at first. The subject only has to fit one of the columns: Look closer, Wear it simpler, What happened, A history lesson, Wardrobe economics, People Worth Knowing. If we take it, it is published under your name; if we do not, we will still reply with the reason.
Collaboration Brands, exhibition institutions, photographers and independent designers inviting collaboration: please write briefly who you are, what you would like to do together, and roughly how the timing would run. The more specific you are, the more accurately we can judge.
Media Interviews, requests for materials and checks of brand information come through this entrance. Whatever materials can be made public, we will send in full in one go, to save going back and forth.
Readers' letters Anything an article got wrong or did not explain clearly, or a subject you have always wanted us to write about — write directly to the editors. A good letter becomes the starting point of the next piece, and anything we got wrong we correct and note.
02What to include when you write
- Put the category and a one-line statement of purpose in the subject line, for example “Submission: I want to write about remaking old clothes”.
- For a submission, include an outline or a link to the full text; a link is enough for the full text at first. This page does not take attachments for now; we will tell you the submission method when we reply.
- For collaboration and media letters, please leave the name of your organisation and a contact person, so we can find the right person when we reply.
03About replies, honestly first
ANNONUS is a small team for now; messages are read by the editors themselves, with no outsourced customer service and no automatic replies to fob you off. In general we reply within 3 working days; when a topic is in production or we are out seeing an exhibition, it may take as long as a week. Submission messages need internal reading, and we usually give a clear answer on whether we will use a piece within 7 days, so no author is left waiting in the dark. Pure advertising pitches and mass mailings unrelated to fashion are the one kind we will not reply to one by one — please forgive us.
These timeframes are a conservative estimate set by our current staffing: we would rather promise slow and deliver early. Anything we cannot do, we do not promise in advance.
04Frequently asked questions
I want to submit something. How do I do it?
Once the mailbox opens, email hello@annonus.com with “Submission” in the subject line and the outline or a link to the full text in the body — no need to add us on WeChat first, and no need to find an intermediary. You will have an answer within 7 days, and we will explain either way, whether we use it or not.
What is the licensing position on the images in the articles?
Images come from only three kinds of source: originals of our own or generated for this site, stock materials with clear commercial licences, and historical materials in the public domain. We do not take images from brand websites or social platforms and use them directly. Where a historical article uses a period image that is a style illustration, the caption says so — it is not passed off as a historical original.
I disagree with an article, or I have found a mistake. What should I do?
Write a reader's letter, pointing to which piece and which passage. If checking confirms it, we correct the original and add a note explaining; if it is a difference of judgement, you are welcome to write your reasoning at length — a letter worth discussing can, with your agreement, be edited and published.
I want to subscribe to updates. Where do I go?
The Journal updates weekly, and the subscription entrance is in the subscription section on the home page. The contact email is only for one-to-one letters; the address you leave will not be used for mass promotional mailings, and will not be given to third parties.
